Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant will join more than 150 residents from the Eastern Shore in the 1 to 3-mile Walk to End Alzheimer’s® to support the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. It is held annually in over 650 communities nationwide. Walk to End Alzheimer’s unites a nation as an unstoppable force in Alzheimer’s, raising more than $51.8 million for care and research in 2012. Our chapter’s 2013 goal is to recruit 445 teams across 6 walks in Southeastern Virginia.

Eastern Shore residents Robin Sexauer and restaurant owner, Kathleen Peirson, are Co-Captains of Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant Team which they began over ten years ago. Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant Team participates every year, and for many years has been recognized as one of the top-fundraising teams. This year’s Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 5 at the Senior Perspectives Office, 9559 Hospital Avenue, Nassawadox. You do not have to walk to participate.

Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant held their Team kick-off on June 2l on the The Longest Day®, a nationwide all day event to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Every Thursday starting July 1st, Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant, 15617 Courthouse Rd., Eastville, VA, will be raising money for their Walk to End Alzheimer’s Team with special promotions which include a raffle for a 2012 Toyota Corolla S (generously donated by a long time supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Judith A. Orrell), raffle for Gift Baskets, 50/50 and much more. Customers can also sign up to join their walk team or start their own.

“I serve on Eastern Shore Alzheimer’s Leadership Council and I know firsthand that it is critical to support the Alzheimer’s Association. My father, Robert W. Sexauer, had dementia and passed away in October. I walk every year to honor him and to help to fight to end this devastating disease. The funds we raise help families and advance important research that could change the course of Alzheimer’s disease for future generations,” said Sexauer, co-captain of Yuk Yuk & Joe’s Restaurant’s team. Sexauer received the 2012 Northampton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award for her support and involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association and other community activities.
