Delaware Department of Transportation held a Construction Information Meeting for Section 2 and Section 3 for the new US 301 at Middletown Town Hall on April 28, 2017.

Most of the dozen or so attendees were residents of Middletown living near the construction area. Some voiced their concerns, such as empty trucks making a great deal of noise and beginning before 7am. Others were questioning why the major road was being done in concrete while the access roads and those roads being rerouted were being done in macadam. That question was not answered since those in attendance were not designed engineers, but the project engineers. Others with questions about things occurring near their property.

The project is said to be on schedule and on budget with some parts even ahead of schedule due to a winter where work was able to continue. It is estimated that the concrete pavement will be started this summer with the the opening of the highways still on schedule for late 2018.

For us who are in Maryland and traveling into Delaware, in the first week of June the the two lanes of Delaware will be transitioned into 4 lanes to join the 4 lanes in Maryland.

Another major change is Warwick Road. They are working on a parallel section of road to existing 301 that will run from the Veterinarian on Warwick Road to Levels road and become Warwick Road. This work is being done now and hope to have it open in late May.

The next Construction Information Meeting for Section 2 and Section 3 will be held on July 27, 2017 at 10am in the middletown Town Hall.
