Ridgely Strawberry Festival and Parade
Strawberry Festival 2011
The Ridgely Lions Club will host the 32nd Annual Strawberry Festival and Parade on Sunday May 29, 2011. The Festival will once again be held at Martin Sutton Park located on Maryland Route 480 in the heart of Ridgely, Maryland. This classic small town festival will feature events rain or shine throughout the day for the entire family.
The highlights of the day include the annual parade, games and rides, a variety of fresh-cooked foods, live music, prizes and awards, and the now famous Ridgely Lions Club strawberry shortcake and ice cream. The festival last year attracted a record crowd that virtually packed the park and the town with activity. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.
The day starts at 9 AM in Martin Sutton Park with a Methodist/non-denominational church service and new this year is the Strawberry Chase 5K Run/Walk sponsored by Jen’s Gems and the Ridgely Lions Club with proceeds supporting the Ronald McDonald House charities. To get information or pre-register for the 5K race/walk go to jensgemsrunning.com.
For the 2nd year, the Caroline County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a mixed doubles tennis tournament as part of the Festival. For information contact Caroline County Parks and Recreation at 410-479-8120 or carolinerecreation.org.
The balance of the activities begin in the late morning with many offerings in a large craft area. The parade line up starts at 10:30 AM in front of the Provident State Bank at the intersection of Central Avenue (Maryland Route 312) and Bell Avenue. The parade will start at 12 PM (Noon) and will go down Central Avenue and end at the festival site. By then, the band will be playing and foods including pit beef, barbecue chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers, and strawberry shortcake will be available.
