The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway present “Teddy Bear” as September’s film for the Around the World series of critically acclaimed, international independent films. This uniquely touching story will be presented on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00 pm in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway. Admission to this film series is free and open to the public.

Screenwriter and director Mads Matthiesen’s feature film debut is a romantic and authentic story about life-altering choices and the different hardships of human nature between a monster of a man and a kind hearted woman. In the latter half of his life, the 38-year-old bodybuilder Dennis (Kim Kold) wants to find true love. He has never had a girlfriend and lives alone with his mother in a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. When he learns that his uncle is marrying a girl from Thailand, Dennis believes that love may be easier to find elsewhere so he decides to take a trip to find what he’s looking for. Knowing that his mother would never accept another woman in his life, he lies and tells her that he is going to Germany to do a bodybuilding competition. As Dennis has never traveled before, the hectic region of Thailand is a huge cultural shock for him and he is about to lose hope when he unexpectedly meets the Thai woman of his dreams.

“Teddy Bear” was a Grand Jury Prize nominee at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and also the winner of the Directing award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. David Fear of Time Out New York wrote, “It’s only a slight exaggeration to say Kold gives what may be the performance of the year! Forget the muscles, he brings the heart and soul.” [2012, Denmark, Runtime: 92 min. Danish and Thai with English subtitles. Not rated]
