Kent County Trojans Game Billed as the Game of the Week in the Bayside Conference
September 4, 2015
What was billed by many as the Game of the Week, the Kent County Trojans and Queen Anne’s Lions meet for the opening game of the season at Trojans Stadium in Worton, MD. The game held up to that promise with the Trojans coming back from being down by 11 to win the game by one. Final score was 46-45.
The Trojans came out crisp and took a quick 15 point lead, but the Lions score twice to shorten the Trojans lead to just 2 at 15-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. Each team had a TD in the 2nd quarter as well as the Lions kicking a field goal in the closing minute of the half to lead 24-22.
The 3rd started slow, but finished with a flurry. Queen Anne still lead the game at the end of the 3rd quarter with a 10 point lead at 38-28.
There was no give-up by the Trojans, even though their head coach Brendon Ireton was ejected in the middle of the 3rd quarter for unsportsmanlike conduct. The team and the Assistant Coaches had the back of their coach and continued to play tough and cut the lead to 4 at 38-35. The Lions scored quick to take a 45-34. But that would be their last score.
Marcquan Green would run back the kick-off for a touchdown, although they did miss the extra point. In fact missing extra points was a big issue for the Trojans. With 3:34 left in the game the Trojans would score their last points on a touchdown catch by Da’Quan Seymour. But once again they would fail on the extra point.
With 1:25 left on the clock and after the Queen Anne Lions had run for a first down on the Trojans 30, the lights went out. Not all of them at first, but they did have to shut them all down to start them. After about a 25 minute the lights were restored and the game continued.
The Lions ran a few plays and were able to have the a goal to go with 14 seconds left on the clock. Setting up for a possible game winning field goal an illegal procedure call pushed them back 5 yards and just barely missed wide right. The Trojans ran the final play of the game to take the game by a single point at 46-45.
