For the past few months Delmarva Town Crier has been posting various Press Releases and Announcements from throughout the Delmarva Region. However, we know that there has been very few from Virgina, the Va of Delmarva.

We are trying to change this. Part of that effort is to reach out to the Eastern Shore of Virgina with a request to please send us your Press Releases, Announcements, Event Information and PSAs.

This can be done by sending an email to us at DTCPR@ShoreToBeFun.com. Plain text is preferred, but .doc. .pdf, or graphic files are fine.

Thanks

Comments on the State of the Roads Cleaning

Earlier this week I ventured from my home in Chestertown, Maryland to a conference I was attending just outside of DC. I left on Monday morning figuring that it would take me about 3 hours to make what is a usual 2 hour trip.

I was greatly surprised and found that for most of the way I was able to do the speed limit and didn’t find to many bad spots. And most of those bad areas were one the Western Shore of Maryland in PG County.

My route took me through Chestertown on Rt 213 to Centreville and then onto 301 to cross the bridge. Both 213 and 301 were clear, bare and dry. The only bad spots were through Chestertown and then Centreville. Through Centreville was really the only bad spot on the Delmarav I drove that day.

Yesterday I made the return trip. Again I figured It would take me longer than the 2 hours and again I made it in usual time. The roads were clear and in most cases dry.

I did make a change in my route and decided to by-pass Centreville. I took 301 down to Price and then went into Church Hill to pick up 213. Even these secondard roads were very passable. Through Church Hill there was a place or two where there was only one and a half lane, but in all it was much better than I expected. Especially after the second big storm in less than a week and only about 12 hours after it stopped.

So now it’s your turn. How did the crews do on your roads? Let us know.

Many feel that the Delmarva Peninsula is a quiet place during the winter months. This can be true. Delmarva is more of a summer place, with many events featuring the summer sun and life upon the Rivers and Bays of the peninsula and the Atlantic Ocean.

A winter’s drive around the Delmarva Peninsula is a wonderful experience. During this time it’s common to see a flock of Canada Geese flying in formation in the sky or feeding in a field.

The view looking across a rolling field after a a snowfall can be simply breathtaking.

A walk on a quiet beach on a sunny winter day listening to the waves as they hit the shore is just the thing to sparkle a romantic evening.

Visit Delmarva during the winter. You’ll be glad that you did.

Wishing everyone a Happy 2010.

As 2009 comes to a close I wanted to take this chance to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

What are you calling it?
I have heard both Two Thousand Ten and Twenty Ten. I imagine that this will be the year that many begin to move away from Two Thousand and … , towards Twenty Ten. Aren’t we already thinking of 2012 as Twenty Twelve?

Besides Twenty (something) is quicker to say than Two Thousand (something).

We also think back on 1910 as Nineteen Ten and not One Thousand Nine Hundred Ten.

But what ever you want to call it, I hope it’s a good one.

As we know, the Delmarva Peninsula is a great place to live. I would rather not live anywhere else. But as this past week has shown we are not immune to the horrors that lurk within. We have seen our share of corruption. There has been a number of sexual child abuse cases by teachers and other administrators. There has been the ever increasing amount of crime and violence in our major cities. And now, just a few days before Christmas the Peninsula has been hit with perhaps the most hideous and outrages action. The kidnapping and death of an innocent 11 year old girl. My heart goes out to the friends and the family of Sarah Foxwell. A friend of mine has been writing articles to keep people up to date on what has been happening. The link to these follow. I just am hoping that with the passing of 2009 our move into 2010, this is all in our past and that the Delmarva Peninsula continues to be the best place in the world to live.
