Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber Gearing Up Ocean to Bay Bike Tour

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber is proud to announce PNC Bank as the Presenting Sponsor of the 21st Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour. The tour, scheduled for Saturday, April 17, is a great opening ride to the Mid-Atlantic cycling season and offers something for everyone, beginners and experienced cyclists.
This award-winning event, organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, offers a choice of a 25-, 35- or 50-mile scenic, relaxing ride on flat terrain, along coastal and inland bay areas.
“The Ocean to Bay Bike Tour has seen tremendous growth in the number of participants over past three years going from 500 participants to nearly 800. As with any event, each year you need to try to add elements and improve upon what was done the year prior to keep the event fresh so participants will continue to come back.” said Membership Director, Carrie Subity.
“We are excited about some of the enhancements and new details that we are planning for the 2010 ride,” states Subity. “One of the biggest additions for this year is making the finish more exciting for the participants.”
“Thanks to presenting sponsor PNC Bank we are going to have a finish line festivities area where cyclists can gather after their ride to share their adventures from the day and enjoy some live music, giveaways and refreshments.”
Check-in and on-site registration will be available Friday, April 16 from noon-8 p.m. at the Chamber’s Information Center, 36913 Coastal Highway in Fenwick Island, for those arriving for the weekend. Day of registration and check-in will be held at the PNC Bank Parking Lot on the corner of Garfield Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue in Bethany Beach from 7-8:30 am Saturday, April 17.
All participants are encouraged to be on the road by 8 a.m. due to higher traffic volumes on some of the roadways. The tour has three rest stops with light snacks and refreshments along the way. “Sag wagons” will patrol the routes from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to assist riders. Each pre-registered participant will receive a goody bag and t-shirt at check-in.
Riders can register by mail, online at www.TheQuietResorts.com, or at the Chamber the day before or at the event. Pre-registration is $30 per adult and $15 for children 4-18 through April 9 and $35 per adult and $20 per child after April 9. Children age 4 and under ride for free, but won’t receive commemorative t-shirts or goody bags. For pre-registered teams of 6 or more, the last rider rides for free!
