(August 18, 2016. Dewey Beach)

The finale of the 2016 Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach Summer Road Race Series is the 40th Annual Gary P. Lister Bottle and Cork Ten Miler, 5K and Pump and Run benefiting the Sussex Consortium. Where were you 40 years ago? The events will be held at 8:00 AM on Saturday September 10, 2016 starting and ending at the Bottle and Cork located at Bellevue Street and Highway One in Dewey Beach, DE 19971.

“The Bottle and Cork Race began in 1977 and is one of the oldest running competitions in the state” says Wayne Kursh, Race Director. The race course has changed over the years from a half marathon to a 10 mile run. Twelve years ago the race was renamed in honor of Gary P. Lister who was a school teacher and worked at the Bottle and Cork. “This is an annual, historic, running event” says Kursh.

The Bottle and Cork has a long history dating back to 1938 when it was originally a general store and gas station. During World War II it was a night spot and it became “the place to be” by locals and visitors!

Be part of this long history and bring your friends, family, and beach house members to one of the largest and oldest running events in the area. Don’t forget the end of season awards ceremony and the always “jamming” great post-race party.

Proceeds from the race benefits the Sussex Consortium. Located in the Cape Henlopen School District it provides intensive educational services to approximately 290 students with special needs. This comprehensive program for students Pre-K through age 21 has a foundation in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and prepares students for successful transitions toward a meaningful adult life.

Races2Run, with the sponsorship of the Highway One Group, offers the 10 Sisters of Dewey Beach racing series each summer. All courses are USATF certified with chip timing. Entrants receive a gender-specific shirt, giveaways. Awards go to top three in five year age categories 9 and under to 80 and over. Gift Certificates go to overall male and female runners and walkers, master’s male and female winners. All 10 mile finishers receive a commemorative medal.

Registration is available online at www.races2run.com until Thursday before the race. Cost for the Ten Miler is $35 in advance and $40 from September 8th until day of the race. The 5K cost is $25 and $30. Packet and number pick-up will be available on Friday September 9th at the Bottle and Cork from 4:00-7:00PM. Day of race registration will open at 6:45 AM. Races begin at 8:00 sharp.

Wayne and Barb Kursh, Race Directors, invite everyone in the area to come and be a part of this historic finale to the 2016 Dewey Road Race Series. Parking is free in Dewey on race day until 11:00 AM.
