August 26, 2013
The 10th Annual Taste of Newark is Sunday, September 29, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Old College Lawn, UD Main Campus (rain location is at Clayton Hall). Tickets are $45 each if purchased before the event and $60 at the door. They are limited and sell out quickly.
Taste of Newark is the ultimate foodie event in Newark! Guests enjoy the culinary delights of more than 50 Newark restaurants accompanied by the finest area wine distributors. We welcome our special guest Executive Chef David Puser. Puser began his lifelong fascination with cooking after his first job as a busboy in his native California. He has cooked and traveled widely and spent four years in the Coast Guard aboard an ice breaker before earning enough tuition to fund his studies at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.
Puser has worked as a chef in Switzerland since 1989 and has served for more than a decade as the executive chef of the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality. In a typical week, Puser teaches three cooking classes in German and two in English. He lives in a village in the eastern Swiss Alps with his wife and two children.
Featuring over 50 restaurants, 30 wineries, celebrity cooking demonstrations and more, this event tempts palates and is sure to please. The spirit of competition generated among the city’s excellent restaurants brings the chefs to their highest levels!
Fueling the competition is the annual “Iron Chef” style Battle of the Chefs! Now in its fifth year, Newark’s best chefs battle for the title of Newark’s Top Chef with one hour to concoct masterpieces from a secret list of ingredients. Competing this year are Anthony Carnevale, II from 16 Mile Taphouse, Jeovany Valle from Caffe Gelato, Mark Chopko from Courtyard Newark, Donny Merrill, Jr. from Skipjack, and Jeff Matyger from Taverna Rustic Italian.
